On September 13, the proposed 350-mile underground 525-kV high-voltage direct-current (HVDC) SOO Green Project gained Iowa Utilities Board (IUB) approval to advance. When energized the project is expected to add 2,100 MW of transmission capacity between MISO and PJM. Meanwhile, on September 15, to spur interregional transmission capacity and bolster grid reliability, two members of congress introduced the BIG WIRES Act. The bill requires FERC transmission planning regions to be able to export at least 30% of their peak load to neighboring areas by 2035. Read more here.
