Energy Savings

By delivering low-cost electricity to consumers, SOO Green will help protect ratepayers from rising energy costs driven by growing demand.

Community Benefits

The SOO Green project will unlock billions in social benefits, including a reduction in harmful air pollutants and associated improvements in health. It will also help accelerate economic growth by providing energy for growing sectors like data centers and AI.

Environmental Benefits

SOO Green is located underground using existing rights-of-way that reduce environmental impact and increase resiliency against extreme weather.

Powering Energy Growth in the Midwest

SOO Green is an economic and energy powerhouse that will increase the capacity of the electric grid and deliver billions in benefits.
SOO Green HVDC Link is a proposed 350-mile underground transmission line from Central Iowa to Western Illinois that would enable the delivery of 2,100 MW of reliable, emissions-free energy and connect two of the nation’s largest power markets (MISO and PJM). SOO Green will be the first link of a national HVDC (high voltage direct current) clean power grid delivering enough clean power to avoid over 1 million harmful carbon emissions.

By connecting Iowa’s low-cost power to customers, SOO Green will help accelerate Illinois  Climate and Equitable Jobs Act (CEJA) goals.

Installed underground along existing rail corridors, SOO Green offers an innovative model to deliver abundant energy to help Illinois meet its decarbonization goals, create good-paying union jobs and produce billions in ratepayer savings.
