SOO Green HVDC Link Files Petition with The Iowa Utilities Board

Filing Marks Major Milestone In The Development Of The Transmission Line Project

Des Moines – Direct Connect Development Company (Direct Connect) has begun the pre-filing process with the Iowa Utilities Board (IUB) for the SOO Green HVDC Link (SOO Green) transmission project.

SOO Green is a proposed high voltage direct current (HVDC) transmission line that will run underground along existing transportation corridors from Mason City, Iowa, to Chicago, Illinois. The project will deliver 2,100 megawatts of the best wind energy resources in Iowa to communities in the east, that have a strong demand for clean, reliable energy.

As part of the IUB process, SOO Green will host several open houses in Iowa and Illinois to introduce local landowners to the SOO Green project. These meetings will provide an opportunity to learn more about the project and the IUB process. Dates and times for the meetings will be announced when confirmed.

In its filing, SOO Green requested that the Iowa Utilities Board schedule public informational meetings in each of the following counties in late February or early March: Allamakee, Cerro Gordo, Chickasaw, Clayton, Dubuque, Floyd, Jackson, and Winneshiek.

“The IUB filing marks an important step forward in the steady progress of the SOO Green HVDC Link project,” said Trey Ward, Direct Connect CEO. “We look forward to meeting with local communities to answer any questions about the project we work toward development.”
